Great news…SGOMA has been mentioned in the weekly newsletter of a local Orthodox Parish in Kansas City area. The Holy Trinity Orthodox Parish in Overland Park, Kansas mentioned SGOMA in a small article that appears in the May 16th newsletter. Click here to view the newsletter

Recently SGOMA has started to form one of its first local Chapters in metropolitan Kansas City (Kansas & Missouri). Richard Keeney, a combat veteran of the USMC, retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves, and a current member of the Kansas National Guard “Scout” Unit has volunteered to help organize the local chapter.

The metropolitan Kansas City area is close to several military instillation’s and has a large number of veterans and retirees in the area.

Currently Richard and the SGOMA – KC Chapter are working on making Chotki’s for our Orthodox Troops. The first batch of Chotki’s are set to be delivered to Fr. Jerome, the Orthodox Chaplain at Camp Pendleton Marine Base in Southern California, for distribution to the Orthodox Marine Recruits attending MCRD.

With such exposure as being mentioned in parish bulletins, it is hoped that SGOMA – KC Chapter will start to grow in number and will be able to continue with their Chotki service project as well as find other ways to reach out and serve our Orthodox in the Armed Forces.

If you are interested in finding out more about the SGOMA – KC Chapter, or would like to offer your support or words of encouragement to Richard, he can me email at: keeneyrichard@att.net
