Bishop Daniel of the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America (under the Ecumenical Patriarchate), the first Bishop to offer his Hierarchical blessing to the SGOMA, visited Las Cruces, New Mexico from April 16th to 19th, 2010. Bishop Daniel met at great length with SGOMA Staff and had serious discussions about the Association. Bishop Daniel is very excited and committed to the mission of the SGOMA.

Bishop Daniel has a very strong love for our Orthodox Troops. He, himself, served two years on active duty in the U.S. Army as an Orthodox Chaplain, and then another 4 years as a U.S. Army Reserve Orthodox Chaplain. He only left military service when he was elevated to the Episcopate and could no longer be subject to mobilization.

Bishop Daniel plans to intercede on our behalf with various Bishops, Archbishops and Metropolitan’s of the other U.S. Orthodox Jurisdictions to further the cause of the SGOMA and to ask for their endorsement/support of the Association, to further the Associations goal to truly be a Pan-Orthodox Association and welcoming of ALL of our Orthodox brothers and sisters in the U.S. Armed Services.

For his work, dedication, devotion, deep love and support of our Orthodox Troops Bishop Daniel was presented with several gifts from the SGOMA to include an official Membership Certificate.

While Bishop Daniel was in Las Cruces, he also had the opportunity to tonsure one of our own SGOMA Members (Vladimir Laven) to the Sub-diaconate. All around it was a great weekend for all things SGOMA!
